Turning Policy Research into Meaningful Narrative

In 2018, the Ohio Department of Medicaid released a major follow-up study on the impact of Medicaid expansion. I worked with the communications team to translate key findings into clear visual materials supporting a statewide media campaign with Governor John Kasich, Medicaid leadership, healthcare partners, and program participants.

Mission Impact

  • Supported a statewide public-affairs campaign communicating the impact of Medicaid expansion during a consequential political transition.

  • Transformed extensive research on employment, access to care, financial stability, and health outcomes into accessible public-facing messages.

  • Created materials used in press events and earned-media outreach across Ohio.

Ownership

  • Collaborated with communications leadership to translate key findings from a major Medicaid expansion study into a concise public-facing visual.

  • Built a clear hierarchy across statistics, participant quotes, and multiple policy themes.

  • Captured on-site photography of Governor John Kasich, Medicaid Director Barbara Sears, and other speakers during press event.
